Suddenly i am without sound on my system
I recently just got my sound card to work with my system Squeeze 6.0.5 as i had to install alsa 1.0.24 for the required drivers. Everything was working beautifully last night however i turn my system on today and no sound works at my system recognizes my soundcard however it says i have alsa 1.0.23 installed ( the version before my Xonar DS was added) I checked Alsamixer and everything was turned on, i checked gnome mixer and everything was turned on and both mixers show my sound card as default . Nothing is muted and the speakers physically are turned on as well (just covering all bases) however nothing. Can anyone give me leads on where i should look i was wondering around google trying to figure out what i should do to fix it and i became aimlessly searching to no avail

Maybe look in /var/lib/alsa/asound.state (if there is one there) and see what it says there.

Have you added your user name to the audio group yet in Debian?
SoundFAQ - Debian Wiki
Since it worked before. You might have to do this
As root . The su command before adduser gives you root permission to add your user name to the audio group. I have a feeling that is all you need to do to get sound working again.Code:su adduser <your_user_name> audio
You need to log out of the user account and log back in to see the effect of the above commandLinux Registered User # 475019

Ok. Just to humor me. Open alsamixer again in terminal. Hit F5 for all mixers. Make double sure <mm> is not showing on any sliders. I know you said you already checked this in a previous post. But I ran into this on my eeepc where I could swear I had master unmuted and turned on. But my eyes must have played tricks on me because it was muted after another check.
