Swap spce is the UNIX defacto, rule of thumb, =<amount of RAM> in my case 512 MB. I don't think swaping is the case. I upgraded my kernel from 2.4 to 2.6.8 with SMP and that helped a whole lot. It's still a little slower than Winblows but not dog slow like it was before.
