    rsync hangs without error

for a test we have run a rsync to copy 1,9TB. It runs for hours (850GB)when suddenly it hangs without any error. the progress indicates that it is busy with one small file but it doesn't copy. In top i see that the process is running but with very low CPU.

i kill all the processes and restart rsync. It scans all the files and directories for changes an starts copying where it stops. What can cause this problem because we want to set up a full automated back-up solution so we want to be sure it works fine an report an error

I can be found either 40 miles west of Chicago, in Chicago, or in a galaxy far, far away.
It is probable that some process has the file open and it is writing to it (or may write to it). Read the rsync man page for more information on how to deal with this sort of scenario.
Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.
