    What is "abiname"?

    Hi
Browsing some information about kernel compilation, I'm seeing the word "abiname" but I'm not understanding how it's used.
I've looked for the word in my desktop dictionary; in Wikipedia; in Any Linux Glossaries Out There, and all I'm finding are references to it, but no definitions of it, and the contexts are still vague to me.
Where'd the word come from, how did it start, what does it mean?
    Thanks

    hello and welcome, gregg!

i assume it refers to Application Binary Interface, and if so, I would point you to this enlightening thread on the subject of ABI.
