CAN'T SHUT DOWN."Unable to stop CD drive, a job is pending on /dev/sr1

I removed my USB correctly but it left behind this thing called a U3 system which apparently comes with the USB.

When I try to safely remove the drive (even though there's nothing to remove) I get this error message:

    Unable to stop CD drive
a job is pending on /dev/sr1

Now I can't even shut down my computer. I even tried "su -c halt" in the Terminal and it just brought me back to the login screen. Any help would greatly appreciated.

I removed the U3 software on my Sandisk pendrive using a Windows computer and

    SanDisk Support

Then reformatted it in Gparted as Fat32.

Just an update in case anyone faces a similar problem:

I attempted to hibernate; I didn't even think it would do anything but I wanted to delay the inevitable: a hard power down.

After it came back out of hibernate, my network was gone and I couldn't re-enter it, at which point I attempted to shut down again and the entire system finally crashed, so I then had no choice but to manually power down.

However, after doing so, everything went back to normal.

I think I'm done with Sandisk and their precious U3.
