Looking for Debian XFCE distro for netbook (HP mini

    Hi all

I am looking for a Debian based XFCE distro for a netbook preferable with Jessie or Sid. I am looking for something similar to Xubuntu.

I tried Solydx but it ran slowly. I also tried SnowLinux but I get a kernel panic when booting it up using a usb disk. I also tried siduction 13.1 but the installer would not launch.

I preferably would not install from scratch using the wheezy net installer.

    Any suggestions?

Have you considered Mint 13 XFCE?

I am looking for a Debian based, not a Ubuntu based distro.

Running This on one of my Atom Netbooks. The XFCE Version.

Might try This One Later with XFCE (will probably have to install it. XFCE 4.10 as it comes with Fluxbox and Openbox I think) on another one.

I tried running SolydX on my netbook. It feels slow compared to Xubuntu 13.04.

I tried to run it from a usb and installing the Greybird them from The Shimmer Project. Even after this change it felt slow. How are you running it and what customizations have you done to get better speed?

I will look at vsido, it really looks promissing.

I don't judge distro speed by a pendrive install.
I tried to run it from a usb and installing the Greybird them from The Shimmer Project. Even after this change it felt slow.
On that netbook, It runs a zif 30 gig platter hard drive. I have 2 gig of ram and Intel Atom 270. CPU scaling was the only tweak.

    If you want speed/
My other netbook (same make and model) with 2 gig ram and zif 64gig SSD flies running AntiX 13.1 but I am proficient using Window Managers like
Icewm and Fluxbox and JWM. That netbook boots in seconds and opens iceweasel in a split second. Runs flash OK also. XFCE is OK but I actually
    prefer using Window Managers also.

No Xfce but the MATE desktop is pretty nice and it's a fork of Gnome 2 so it's easy to get around on. You can get a Pure Debian 7.1 Distro with a MATE desktop in the Point Linux 2.2 "Taya" Distro. I've been running it for a month or more now and I really love it. Good, solid Debian base, nice, simple MATE desktop, just doesn't get much better then that IMHO.

Siduction may also be worth a look.

I have looked at the latest Siduction. Unfortunately the installer would not start.
