Need help to connect my cellphone via the ir_da port

Hello!

I need help to get my ir_da port on my laptop running.
i'm new to configure hardware under linux, so please go easy with me.

i dont know how much of the ir port settings who hade been autoconfigured. and i have installed irattach package with apt-get and i cant get the port running.
The laptop with the integrated ir port is an Compaq n610c.
and i'm trying to recive files from a Sonyericsson k700i phone.

what software do i use to connect my cell?
