Trouble getting usb to play nicely.

    Hi all,

So basically, I need to use a windows programme in conjunction with a usb chip and pin card reader (its for my internet banking). The usb chip and pin reader also comes with a windows driver.

I didn't want to install wine on my main system and internet is so slow here that I dont' want to spend an eternity waiting for a download of a windows vm to complete, so I'm running wine on a vm and have installed with windows stuff inside. Problem is, I cant use the chip and pin reader because I can't get Debian/Virtualbox to see that there's something to plug in.

If I run lsusb I get:

Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 8087:0a2a Intel Corp.
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 05c8:0379 Cheng Uei Precision Industry Co., Ltd (Foxlink)
Bus 001 Device 007: ID 0b0c:003f Todos AB Todos C400 smartcard controller (Handelsbanken card reader)
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

So I need to use device 007, but where do I go from here? Any thoughts?

surely you meant that you installed WINDOWS on the virtualbox vm?
anyhow, mosey over to Oracle VM VirtualBox and search for how to expose host hardware to clients.

also, it seems you're not the only one:

maybe windows isn't required at all?
If a post is too long and unstructured I might miss important information.
