    what is vesafb error -6?

folks, i installed woody on an hp omnibook (64MB RAM, 10 GB HD), upgraded several packages from www.backports.org to support kernel 2.6.10, and have compiled in framebuffer and all the necessary stuff so that i can get 1024x768 res on my console. i used to get this res from slackware and a 2.4.28 kernel.

now when i reboot i still get 25x80 lines and the vesafb error -6. are they connected? i don't know why with kernel 2.4.28 i can't find the framebuffer selections that's why i installed 2.6.10.
