How can I get midi files to play on debian? I think I need a /dev/sequencer device or /dev/snd/seq, but there is none there. Thanks in advance for the help....

Run a "apt-cache search midi" and see if you can use one of these programs.

well, the problem is not that I don't have a program to play midi files (kmid for example), the problem is rather that I don't have a device node for the sequencer in /dev/, and I have no idea how to create one.
