    network unreachable

    Distro is woody3.0

The problem I am having is the message network unreachable when trying to ping another computer on the network. I have a home network(router/switch), with three pc’s connected to it, connected to a cable modem…

What I have done so far to try and figure out what might be going on.

Nic card is a belkin, loaded driver module rtl8139
Ifconfig returns the settings for eth0 (the mac address is there…)
Lsmod shows the driver module loaded
Edited the interfaces config file to include the line auto eth0

Ping fails, packets are transmittin but no echo from the addressed pc.

Any suggestions on what I might do next. I am sure the card is good.

    thanks

If the ifconfig command only dislays the mac address, then your problem is that the card is not properly configured (i.e. no IP address has been assigned to it). You can give it an IP address with the ifconfig command
    Code:
    ifconfig eth0 <IP address> netmask <subnet mask>
replacing <IP address> and <subnet mask> with the IP address and subnet mask respectively,

Then you may want to add your router as the default gateway. This can be donw with:
    Code:
route add default gw <router's IP>
    Hope this helped

the IP address is assigned as is the subnet mask. The information is all there.

Interrupt use is 10 and base address is 0x1000
