    Best (reasonably priced) printer?

I am just about ready to give my Epson C-82 Stylus printer to my daughter and replace it with something that would run well with Debian.

Would an HP be a good choice, or something else?

    Any suggestions?

    Hi jlgreer1,

I use an HP PSC1315 and it works well for me (haven't really worked at trying the scanner yet). I am using Suse 9.2 and it recognized the printer right away. As for Debian, ther is hpoj and hpijs for helping to setup HP printers. I have never really had to work directly with either but I believe those are the pieces of software that are responsible for my printing.

That is the website for the printer. That is HP Canada, so in US dollars, it is like $79.36 ($99 Canadian). I remember paying more for that but the site says $99 so I would go with that.

    Hope that helps,
    Bryan

Thanks for the info. It would seem that HP is better supported than Epson.

Yeah definetly. HP works nicely with the Linux distros I have tried (FC3, Suse 9.2 and Ubuntu 4.10(think it worked with 4.10)/5.04).

Best of luck in getting your printer working.

Thanks Analog for the tip regarding Walmar Lexmark. I do a log of shopping at Walmart. The price was tempting.

Search froogle (or whatever) for: Samsung ML-1740

Very excellent laser printer for around $100 - 140, that gets along nicely with Linux. That's what I use with SuSE.

    Thanks Anomie,

I'm just looking for B&W so the Samsung sounds like a great idea.
