How can I edit my screen res. after I already loaded X?

Hello, I put on Debian Sarge today and I told it my screen res. but after I booted into Gnome it just gives me 800x600, I go into change the resoltution but it only has 800x600 and one lower (640x768 is it?), so how can I change my resoltution? My refresh rates are ok but I just need higher screen res. Thanks.

If neccessary I guess I could remove X and start all over again..

Oh and "xrandr -s 1024x768" will not work nor will "dpkg -reconfigure x"

I don't really know of any other commands that would fix my problem..

EDIT: "dpkg-reconfigure x-window-system" will not work.
