Debian net-install Freezes
Hey everyone, I've been trying to install Debian Sarge through a net install. I was assuming the install would run fine seeing as how ubuntu and all other Debian based installs I've tried worked ( I never completed the installs, I just wanted to see which ones would install). Anyways, once at the boot prompt, I pressed enter, and the installer started detecting my Hardware, which usually isn't a problem. However, the installer freezes once it starts detecting my DVD-Rom, it says loading module 'ide-disk' for 'linux ATA Disk'. it hangs at 83%
My DVD-Rom is an LG DVD-RW (not sure of the exact model) which hasen't had any problems with other distros. Ome possible problem that I have is that the burner burns the ISO image at 24X and I can't change it (nero smartstart sucks). I'd want to burn at a much slower speed but I donT' know where to find a good dependable iso burner
The computer itself is an Athlon64 3200 with an Asus A8N-SLI motherboard.
would getting the 1st ISO of the full install help?? I doubt it, but I really want to install Debian, it's the distro that seems to appeal the most to me.
Thanks for the help

That is odd that Debian doesn't work (the installer is exactly the same as Ubuntu).
Here are a couple of windows cd burner programs people have recommend in the past
CDBurnerXP
deep burner
Yea, the first full install cd shouldn't help.
I would try burning again (could be a bad burn), or if you can removing the dvdrom drive and testing with another.Brilliant Mediocrity - Making Failure Look Good

thanks for the suggestions. I'll try those out and see what happens

Does the net-install have an MD5? and if so how do I check it (I have tried many times and I still don't understand how to use MD5s).
Thanks

So sarge doesn't boot 2.6 by default? That might explain it.
Also I want to verify the Md5 for the ISO (I finally figured it out) but I can't actually find the MD5 file to compare it with, I've looked all over teh debian site.
Again thanks for your help.
EDIT: that did the trick
Thanks so much for the help, now I can install the distro I've been really wanting to try

I just have a question concerning the Bootloader. Does sarge use lilo or Grub? Also, if my main hard drive has windows and I plan to install linux on a second hard drive, would I install the bootloader on the MBR of the windows partition? or should I install it on the linux Hard drive and change the Boot order in the bios to the second drive as opposed to the windows drive?
I'm assuming by default it'll intall the new bootloader on the windows mbr correct? Which is preferable, I would like to avoid have bootloader errors, this being my first linux install.
Thanks
Dan

You should be able to install on the mbr and then boot windows and sarge both. If you have a empty floppy I like to install my bootloader on it, so I don't have to worry at all. I have my floppy as the first in the boot sequence. It works great for me.
