    Ubuntu no boot

I can't boot. I tried to use GRUB in the masterboot...doesn't load. I then tried putting it onto a floppy then I got a GRUB hard disk error. I also tried LILO and it would not install onto my MBR as well as a floppy. I'm running WinXP on a sata hardrive properly partitioned.

First off, what's your partition scheme and what errors, if any, are you getting on the screen?

My error is when Grub first starts. It says root-hda1 then error 23 no hard drive found. I tried installing Ubuntu completely by itself as opposed to dual booting a second time around and the same error happens. I can get into a grub prompt but I have no clue on what to do. The partitions were set by Ubuntu #1 \ and #5 swap. Thanks for the help.
