Scrolling messages have taken over my computer!

Can anyone help me? Thank you all in advance for you assistance. Technical details appear at the bottom of this message.

I have been running Sarge for months now with no problems. Then my graphics card died on me, so I replaced it with another. Debian boots fine to start with but X cannot start (no suprise). Before I have the chance to edit /etc/X11/XConfig, the shell begins to scroll these messages:

    DROPPED IN=wlan0 OUT= MAC= ff:ff:ff:ff:.... etc

It scrolls so fast, I can't make out the rest of the message, but I know that it's listing MAC addresses and IP information and the like. Guessing that something may also be wrong with my network, I tried "ifdown wlan0"

Still, it kept scrolling these messages. So I tried "/etc/init.d/networking stop" They still kept coming! Frustrated, I shut down and removed the antenna to my wireless card. I thought that if the card couldn't connect to the network to begin with then the messages might never appear. I rebooted and they still kept coming!

Oddly enough, even though these messages are cluttering up my screen I am still able to issue commands to the shell. The problem is that I can't see what I'm doing! I though that if I could get X up and running I wouldn't have to see them. At least then I could troubleshoot the cause of this problem from the safety of KDE. But I can't get X to run until I configure my video card, and vi is impossible at this point (they even invade vi!).

I know that my hardware is ok, because I have a dual boot system with WinXP, and everything works just fine when I boot windows. Is there anyway I can get these messages to stop long enough to configure my video card?

OS: Debian 3.0 Sarge / WinXP
Video Cards: NVIDIA GeForce II (dead), SiS 315 (not configured)
    Network Adapter: D-Link DWL-G510 via Ndiswrapper 1.0
