i can view the files in a root terminal and copy them from the mounted partiton, but the copied files are permissioned too.

you need to change your /etc/fstab to something like this:

    /dev/hda3 /mnt/win ntfs ro,umask=0000,user,gid=users 0 0

this will give all users the ability to access the windows partition and execute files from it, you can change the umask to 0222 if you want to limit full access to all but root
of course change it to meet your mount point and partition information

    Code:
    /dev/hda1 /media/windows ntfs ro,defaults,user,gid=1000,umask=0222 0 0
This is what I have, 1000 is the user group I want to give access to

Im kind of new to Linux and want to see my windows NTFS files from Ubuntu, but dont know how.

    I typed:

    mount -t ntfs /dev/hda1 /mnt/hd

I can now see the files when listing /mnt/hd
but how do I get permission and able to access them from X ?

PS! Im a newbie and dont know many unix commands :P

    If you do
    Code:
    chmod 555 /mnt/hd
you shoulb be able to read and execute the files via the giu filemanager like konqueror, by navigating to /mnt/hd

That's the simplest way of doing it... are you having problems doing this?

You cauld make a link to /mnt/hd/bla/bla/bla/mp3file on you desktop if you wanted to do that...
