Dang, the nVidia installer works for me every time. I don't see any reason to do it differently. I'm with techieMoe on this one.

This thread has degenerated into a shouting match, and it's entirely my fault. To all those working to get the nvidia driver installed, use whatever method you like. I apologize for antagonizing the original poster, as I'm sure the method described works fine for them, just as my method works fine for me. Thread locked.
