    i messed up kubuntu

    i was bored this night, so i decided to upgrade my os to breezy using the tutorial on ubuntuguide.org. so i do it and everything works out fine, but when i reboot my pc it won't boot into kdm. i try startx, it says that it's not recognized, startkde, same thing, same with kdm or startkdm or any other variation. i check that xorg.conf is still there, and it is, so i'm not getting why kde isn't working. i tried resetting my sources.list back to hoary and then doing an apt-get update and apt-get dist-upgrade, but apparantly i didn't read the fineprint and there's no going back. so now i'm stuck with breezy, no gui, and a sources.list from hoary, which doesn't help much. i then try apt-get install kde, i have dependancy issues, same if i try kdebase. i tried kde-core and kde-desktop, same thing. how do i get my gui back? o'm typing this from windows, and it's a pain.

    thanks

    First you will need to change all instance of hoary, in sources.list, to breezy. That way you can at least use apt. Nor sure why x won't start for ya, with out more info.

    Let us know how your comin along.

    At the command prompt login as your username.
    Then issue the command below and update your sources.list as desired.

    Code:
    $ sudo nano -w /etc/apt/sources.list

    ok, i just fixed the source.list so it's all pointed to the breezy servers instead of the hoary ones. i did apt-get install kdebase and it seemed to download and install just fine. startx still didn't wor, so i did startkde, and it stated loading, then i got an error saying 'kpersonalizer: cannot connect to X server'

    how do i fix that?

    thanks

    Breezy has _alot_ of X problems.
    You might do a search in that forum for more info.

    No easy or foolproof way.

    Did you apt-get update after adding breezy?
