Need help with single boot installation
Hi all
I am planning to install Debian onto a Win98 AMD-K6 machine with 64MB of RAM. However, I am considering making it single boot, ie Linux only. Can anyone point me to a tutorial or give me some pointers as to the least messy / least error prone approach? I am familiar with installing a dual boot Suse setup.
Thanks in advance

Do you want to keep Windows 98? If not, just wipe your HD, and use it completely for Linux
. The windows bootloader will be overwritten then.

Hi borromini
Keeping Win98 is a convincing argument, but not having to use a boot floppy for Linux all the time is even better. Thanks for your quick response and I'll make it happen.

You can easily configure GRUB or Lilo to dualboot... With minimal effort you can also change the default system the boot loader will boot from, the time it waits until it automatically boots the default system, and so on...
I know I first used a floppy to boot my Linux also, but I installed GRUB/Lilo on the MBR, and that works fine 99% of the time. I personally never had problems with it.
What's more is, should your Win98 install become corrupted, you can easily read it with a Knoppix cd or from your Linux install, and put files back on the Fat32 and stuff like that... Piece of cake
.
