    How do I play CD's?

I get normal system sounds, but when I played a cd, I got nothing. I used numerous "cd player" programs with the same result: it plays the file but no sound is heard. The mixer levels are up and the cd channel is not muted. Any ideas on how to fix this?

it may be that the sound wire is not connected from the back of the CDROM drive to the sound card (or CDIN connector on your motherboard if you have an on-board sound card). Audio CDs are played thru this wire (actually three wires bundled together), as opposed to thru your motherboard.

    have fun

Use Suse 10.1 and occasionally play with Kubuntu
Also have Windows 98SE and BeOS
