    KPPP trouble

I installed Sarge on a spare partition few days ago and it is everything I
expected it to be bar one problem - I am unable to connect to the Internet.
KPPP fails with the error message:
"The remote system is required to authenticate itself but I couldn't find
any suitable secret (password) for it to use to do so. (None of the
available passwords would let it use an IP address)"
This is odd since I am able to run KPPP with similar configuration from
Pink Tie 10 (RHEL3WS clone) as well as Knoppix3.9 LiveCD.
I have compared the pap-secrets, chap-secrets as well as resolv.conf files
under both and see no material difference. Adding additional '*' to
    pap-secrets file makes no difference.
Any clues to sorting this out? Thanks

    and the solution ...

Nothing like answering my own question ...
Simply replaced the 13KB /etc/ppp/options file with a two-liner, viz:
    'lock
    noauth'
Not sure if this is a security risk but this may be useful for other users with same problem.
    Regards.
