    debian sarge: xf86-xorg

    oi, i have a pretty new card (nv geforce 6600gt) and it seems that xf86 does not have new enough drivers....
    so i googled for debian xf86 to xorg and read some stuff that told me i could install stuff from sid.
    any tips i should know about, or anything i should worry about/take caution in?

    Well the same drivers are used for both. It was a project fork and there shouldn't really be any incompatibilities. The free nv driver I avoid because I like 3D acceleration but I wold imagine that the latest nVidia driver would support it. Having said that xorg does seem to be better. Smoother and has a few extensions.

    yes, if you upgrade to sid, you can install xorg. However, it uses the nv driver too, so if you want the 3D accel. you will have to install the proprietary driver from nvidia

    about sid...
    i asked around in #debian if i should use sid or not...they all said NO
    iono why
    any ideas?

    If you don't mind your system breaking now and then, and you like to experiment with your machine, there's nothing wrong with using sid. If you want to go more for stability, sarge is a better choice.

    That said, I've used sid a number of times and never had any trouble with it.

    Good luck whichever route you take.
