    booting ubuntu from a live cd on a mac

    okay i am using a g4 apple ibook and i am interested in switching to ubuntu so i downloaded the live cd version and have tryed burning it onto a disk numerous times and tried booting it up numerous times i looked around at various tutorials around the net and tried there solutions such as holding c key holding command option shift delete and holding command c none of which worked allot of people have also told me to switch my BIOS to check for cd and i know how to do this on a pc but not a mac if anyone could help thad be rad

    Mac's dont have a BIOS, you need to find a PPC version of the live cd, I bet you have the x86 version, so your mac's bootup system reads the first sector of the disk, where a reference to an x86 bootloader resids, on your mac it means nothing, so normal startup procededs.

    nah...i got the power pc version of it and i tried knoppix on it as well which is supposed to be architecture independant or something

    if you can take the time for cds to arive you can order the cds from ubuntulinux.org they will ship them to your house for free i ordered mine that way and they work perfectly.

    yeah i was going to do that but i wanted to try it out first with a live cd whatever guess ill just do that

    You have to hold down the "C" key while booting, than it should work...

    Well, it did work for me...(that is, on a friend's system)
    PS: If you read all those tutorials, you probably also noticed their's also a problem with wireless stuff(still haven't found a fix for that).
