    internet shot to hell

wow, this is really strange. my internet connection will only allow me to access a few sites and won't let me connect to the linuxforums chat room. also gaim keeps shutting down randomly. it's like a virus or something. i can't download rkhunter or clamAV either. my modem is a crappy speedtouch (silver). the one that needs the script to connect to the internet.

any help would be appreciated, thanks
Here's why Linux is easier than Windows:
Package Managers! Apt-Get and Portage (among others) allow users to install programs MUCH easier than Windows can.
Hardware Drivers. In SuSE, ALL the hardware is detected and installed automatically! How is this harder than Windows' constant disc changing and rebooting?

it seems that restarting my computer has solved the problems. the connnection worked perfectly on SuSE when i restarted my computer. perhaps something was corrupted in debian? another oddity, i was being redirected to google.nl by default. it's all back to normal now but i'm afraid it could happen again.

if you still want to know i am using an ADSL connection provided by the lovely speedtouch 330 usb modem uke:
i don't think there was really a pattern, it just seemed random.

That's really weird. It sounds like it could've been a proxy issue. Did you set a proxy shortly before this happened?

nope, not at all. i think i discovered the problem though. the fs is corrupt. the fsck ran on startup and detected corruption at around 74%. unfortunately i don't know how to fix it. i tried to run fsck from SuSE but i don't really know how to do it, can anyone help?

More likely you got a poisened DNS cache, its your ISP's fault/problem more than anything, it happens occasionaly, but the reboot probably pulled a new pair of DNS servers and fixed the problem.

cool thanks. i learned something today. it would explain the stuff that was happening to my bro on battle.net last night as well. though it seems too common (twice in one week).
