    query on net-install..

Debian is my 2nd (non-live) distro I have installed. First being Red Hat series (inc. Fedora).

I downloaded and burnt the Debian 'net' install version. Hmm not bad. Debian installation reminds me of good ol' Red Hat 5.2. Text-mode installation rules.

Anyways, I got to the add/remove application stage. What? It's text mode... and it's really cramped. Damn. I'll skip this stage. Cool. Now I don't have any window managers installed. Hmm... luckily I remember my apt-get skills. apt-get install kde. Yay! But how do I start kde? startkde gives me cannot start xserver or something. And x is installed coz I typed x <tab> and see lots of x11 stuff.

Plus what are these (during partitioning disk stage):

    Configure software RAID
    Configure the Logical Volume Manager
    Guided partitioning

    ?

If you are certain that you installed X then personally configure it
to make sure it is done properly.

    # dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86

    Maybe they're not _completely_ certain.

I liked Knoppix hard drive install. It's just Debian now.
