    Debian and FC4 screen clarity differences

    After running FC4 for a bit and the running Debian I noticed the clarity of everything on the screen is so much cleaner in FC4. Could this be because of the differences between xorg and Xfree86? They were both running on the same system with Gnome, same resolutions, etc. This is the only conclusion I can make, any other opinons.

    Try this:

    Go to /etc/fonts and look at local.conf you should, or night see:

    <match target="font">
    <edit name="autohint" mode="assign">
    <bool>true</bool>
    </edit>
    </match>

    </fontconfig>

    In this example it's un-commented, in yours it might not, or may not be availbale.

    Un-comment or paste in, then re-start x server.

    Hmmm... I don't have a local.conf but I do have a fonts.conf. However there was nothing as you describe in it. I am to assume I do not have the freetype autohinter module? And what is it exactly?

    You can copy that in fonts.conf.

    Then restart xserver.
