Big crash, read only file system
Hi!
I am in big trouble, tried to get my ati driver to work by changing stuff in xfree86 it worked then bang.. Now I can't get
in to x and in failsafe mode i only get a read only file system even as root..
Are there any way of making the fil sysmtem writeable again - just need to copy
the original xfree86-4 file to etc/X11 and then i'll be okay i think..

Chroot to your install from the rescue disk, and configure x again (and correctly this time
). If you don't need 3D in Linux, I recommend you just keep away from it. nVidia is ok, but ATI Linux 3D support sucks big time; I messed up my system several times trying to install it.

You have to do # chroot /mnt/hda1 I think (you need to find out where the rescue cd mounts your root partition and then chroot to there). From there you can work like you were working on your system normally (but still in text mode).
