Which 32 bit kernel for AMD 64?
Linux noob here with a dumb question.
I知 running an Asus A8V Deluxe motherboard with an AMD 64 +3500 processor. I知 not really interested in running a 64 bit OS as there are really no applications out for it yet. What would be the best 32 bit kernel to use with Debian? Im using Debian 3.1. Thanks in advance.

Re: Which 32 bit kernel for AMD 64?
The default one, and when you get good enough with linux, prehaps your own customized kernel.

I installed Sarge six months ago from DVD. When I got around to upgrading the kernel, I had to run
apt-cache search kernel-image
From there, when I selected the generic 386 kernel (2.6.8 was the newest on my disk as I recall), it also installed another kernel more specific to my machine, which I think is the 64 bit kernel, which I normally use. I've had no problems with it, and if I were to need the additional fuctionality, I've got it.

Thanks for your suggestions guys. Im happy to say that im primarily using Debian Linux now for my main OS.
Im using Thunderbird for email, KDE for my desktop, have my NVIDIA 6800 running with the latest drivers and have transfered most of my personal stuff over to the "new world". I Love playing Doom 3, Quake 3, UT and tons of other games under Linux as well. Ok, enough of that.. Linux rocks.
I have a few more smaller issues though, I love using MAME (xmame-x11) to play all my favorite childhood games. However, I cant seem to get my Gravis GamPad Pro (gameport version) working. I would like to get two of them working if possible (they chain together) but I would be happy if I could just get one to work! The game port is located on my Creative SB Live card and im running the 2.6.8-2-386 Kernel. I have tried this..
http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/top...ghlight=gravis But I get this error message on the third step..
FATAL: Error inserting ns558 (/lib/modules/2.6.8-2-386/kernel/drivers/input/gameport/ns558.ko): No such device
Secondly, can anyone recommend a Linux word processor that has excellent compatibility with MS Office.. or MS Word to be more exact?
Thanks again in advance. You guys are great.
