    console based messenger service

    Is there anyway to get messenger in console
    I tried both centericq and freeho
    both give the same error ..."server closed socket"
    gaim is working ..
    my internet is connected using http proxy
    I gave the proxy info in my bash_profile...
    export http_proxy="http://xxxx:3128"
    I don't think it is a proxy problem...
    please help..
    p.s. I use debian sarge .if at all this info needed

    I installed that too
    I installed as root
    now iam not able to run as root
    ..it asks why are you running this program as root
    and I can't run it as normal user ..what can I do

    I got a bad news here
    we have firewall
    we cannot use IRC

    Well, if your firewall has that port blocked, then you are likely out of luck...

    My work is like that also, but I found that they don't have port 22 blocked (default for ssh). So, I can ssh to my slack box at home, and then connect to IRC through there...not a bad trade-off, IMHO.

    I want it for yahoo
    so..there is no way i can get ....

    atleast tell me how to configure ari-yahoo, centericq,freehoo etc
    where can I find their config files ..they are neither in my home directory nor in root
