    How do I disable sharing ... using ubuntu ....... urgent...pl

    how will i come to know that my folders are shared on network server

    .... just clicked on my network server and then realized that my pc
    might also be having shared folders. Dunno how to disable in linux.

    I just want to disable my shares, if others want to shar their stuff with me

    Uninstall file sharing servers...

    I don't use Ubuntu, but you can simply uninstall samba and nfs servers... this will disable completely file sharing... even if you GUI say different... otherwise configure your samba server to don't export any share... you can read many how-to and tutorials, or use some nice GUI like the control-center of KDE, swat... very accurate...

    However it's very strange that your installation will share your files by default...
