ubuntu 5.04 problems on intel 915

    hi i am using a intel 915 GAV motherboard,80GB sata,p4 3GHz HT,512MB DDr ram...

    i installed ubuntu 5.04 hoary...
the system hadnt detected my sound card then...

then i installed the add-on cd as on www.ubuntuguide.org & installed more apps & the sound fix...then i rebooted but still m sound is broke...

i also did apt-get dist-upgrade after that but to no avail....

i 915GAV being quite old now i thot would be recognized fine by ubuntu....FC3 didnt & FC4 gave crackling o/p...

i am sure others would ve faced the same problem & rectified this....

can someun please point me to the correct direction to rectify this situation??

also the video playback ( even from hdd) seems bit choppy...
not as smooth playback as in windows...

i am ready to slog it out to rectify the situation but need some guidance...
    please help me out here...

Open a terminal and type as root:
    Code:
    alsaconf
Configure your card that way (assuming it is recognized). Then, type:
    Code:
    alsamixer
to turn all the volumes up (make sure to unmute channels too if they are muted, do this by pushing "m" at the volumes that are muted). Then:
    Code:
    alsactl store
    to store the settings.

    Good Luck,
    Bryan
