    Program defaults in Ubuntu

    Hello,

I am new to Gnome/Ubuntu, so I am little bit confused in how everything basicly works

Last night I changed program defaults to open music and image files. Originally I changed /usr/share/applications/defaults.list by hand, and this seemed to work okay. Later on, I noticed that there was graphical UI for changing this in File Properties in Gnome. I changed MP3 file assosiation through this menu, which also worked, but /usr/share/applications/defaults.list remained unchanged.

After thinking about it for a while, I theorised that defaults.list file is global defaults for all user, and changes done through Gnome GUI are only for current user. Is this correct, or have I completely misunderstood this?
