    Ubuntu installation/deinstallation questions

I am completely new to Linux. So far I've been able to get Ubuntu up and running in a dual-boot with XP home and configure DriverLoader to work with my wireless card. However, when I tried to install Firefox 1.0.6, it installed itself to the desktop instead of replacing 1.0.2. I think I can update 1.0.2 with the Ubuntu Update Manager, but how can I get rid of the 1.0.6 that's lurking on the desktop? The installation log reports that some files were registered during installation, so I'm afraid deleting it could cause me problems.

What kind of package did you download? If you are using the binary installer from mozilla.org is there not an uninstaller included in the decompressed folder?
