    Computer freezes when X starts

    Computer specs:
    Athlon XP 3200+
    1.5gb RAM
    80gb SATA HDD
    Debian 3.1 stable
    uname -r shows '2.6.8-2-386'
    Nvidia FX 5700 128mb RAM

I used apt-get install kernel-source-2.6.8, and downloaded the nvidia driver from the nvidia.com website (I had tried apt-get'ing nvidia-glx, and it did not work)

When using the 'nvidia' kernel, X begins to start, and where the white 'nvidia' screen should appear, a white screen appears and freezes the computer. Using the 'nv' driver doesn't do this (everything functions as normal)

This probably started happening after I installed/updated Starcraft (via cedega)

    Can someone please help me?

I would try just reinstalling the nVidia driver.
