    Linux Alsa Question

I can't get my sound card to work with Debian Sarge. I know I need to run alsa but I have no clue as to how to do this. My sound card is pretty much brand new so this is very frustrating.

    # apt-get install alsa-utils
    # alsaconf
    # alsamixer

After doing the above... you might also need to do "alsactl store" to store your settings.

I run alsaconf... it tells me "no supported PCI or PnP card found". I'm giving up just about now... I can't get my printer to work either.

What sound card are you using?

    # lspci -v | grep -i audio

A new Sound Blaster Live! 24 bit. (or that's what the package says).
Oh, that command you told me to run returns the following:
0000:00:0f.0 Multimedia audio controller: Creative Labs SB Audigy LS

    sb live woes

so i got sick and tired of my on board sound, went to walmart and bought a sc live 7.1 24bit card. i got sound to come out, but it drives me mad. it's really... how shall i put it... disconnected? i think it's because the card will automatically try to convert a stereo song into 7.1 channel sound. sounds like a usable feature, but i only have two speekers. so i want to know how to get it to use just the two (until i get . any help would be very swell indeed.

as much as i hate to admit it, i also run windows 2k. sound card works fine there, in case you were wondering.
