Yes, you can install DSL to the hdd.
Right-click on the desktop, and look through the menus, you will see the option to install.How to know if you are a geek.

Don't just jump right in. You need to make a swap partition and a root partition first. Ask us if you need help with this.

You have to make them manually before you start installing. Otherwise it just spits back an error message.
