MEPIS install affected BIOS
Mepis install affects BIOS
Tried MEPIS live. Liked it so pushed install. After a little experience I found too many non-working apps. Wanted to go back to Mandrake. Couldn't boot from CD. Tried to get to BIOS using DEL during initial boot. System ignored it and went on to hard drive.
Motherboard: ASUS A7N266-VM. CPU=ATHLON @1.8gH,
CD=OPTOWRITE CD-RW 52x24x52.
keyboard=AT translated set 2.
Any suggestions?

try reseting your bios, there should be a way (manually doing something on your motherboard)

i guess if you can't find the motherboard bios jumper you can always pull the cmos battery for a few mins that usually works for resetting the bios.

Mepis install affected BIOS
Thanks guys. Your help is appreciated.
I think the trouble lies in some peculiarity of the technology involved in trying to install from a live CD. I had a somewhat similar problem a month or so ago when I tried to install from Puppy Linux 1.0.1 live CD. That time I didn't lose the ability to go into BIOS and reset the boot order. When I booted up for the first time after reinstalling Mandrake, an icon for the PuppyLinux settings file appeared on the login screen beside the regular lilo box. That icon didn't show up on subsequent logins. A puzzlement, huh?
Thanks again
