    Icons

OK... I understand that there are some files devoted for icons like .png and that when you create a launcher for an application you can place an icon in it. I have checked all the icons available for two new apps that I installed (Please don't applaud... It took me 15 days to make this happen and I am not proud of it...) and I don't like any of them. Supposing that I can get a .gif file from the Internet, how can I make it into my icon for my launcher?

No, I haven't read the manual yet on this one but I figured that this is a trivial question.

    Kind regards,

I made my own custom "dr. who/hitchhikers guide" icons in kde... so i can begin to help you in this. but i don't know Xandros...so you might have to figure out some distro specifics for yourself....but anyhoo...

for kde all you need to do is figure out the name of the icon is for your app. icon themes in suse are in /opt/kde3/share/icons. to find your own try locating something like kmenu.png and you'll probably find out the directory for Xandros.

now find your application icon in the directory of your current icon theme.

now there are two ways to change it
    1) the easy way... replace that icon with an icon of your own
    2) make your own personal theme so you don't mess with the "default" themes.

to do method 1... just open up something like gimp.. resize your gif to whatever size icon you want (16x16, 22x22, 32x32 pixels...etc) then save it as a .png and replace the png in there with yours.
    done.

if you want to make your own theme... ask me and i'll explain as best i can...
