another sound problem
Recently I've recompiled kernel from 2.4 to 2.6.13.2, and the sound is gone. When KDE is starting i get message from aRts: "cannot open /dev/dsp (no such file or dir)". My soundcard is integrated nvidia ac97 soundcard, which is supported by intel8x0 module.
During startup I see something like: "snd_intel810i is disabled in configuration", and in lsmod I cant find nothing like intel8x0, but instead I've got via82cxxx, its also a sound module but for different group of soundcards.
Dmesg gives a long list of errors, like:
"snd_ac97_codec: Unknown symbol snd_ctl_add ..."
I've tried to run alsa_conf, it starts optimistic with finding two soundcards (one generic, and mine integrated card), displaying msg about succesull config, and ends not so good with msg: "aclt: No soundcards found ..."
Later I've tried to rebuild alsa, but after loading them I get msg:
"FATAL: Error inserting snd
(/lib/modules/2.6.13.2/kernel/sound/acore/snd.ko): Unknown symbol i n
module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)"
Could someone please help with that?
ps Sound worked perfectly with 2.4 kernel, but after recompiling kernel and starting debian with kernel 2.6.13.2 sound is gone also when I run debian with old kernel.

Uhm...
Maybe you should re-run alsaconf...
Probably there some problem with /etc/modules.conf (wich should be modified by alsaconf). When using Windows, have you ever told "Ehi... do your business?"
