    New to linux =/

ok I was dling debian and I'm wondering what version to install, I have a asus mobo and running a p4, so I thought I would go with i386... but im not sure. it didnt work when I went throught boot up...

Then I thought, hey maybe I have to refomat before installation because installing linux wont reformat the hd itself (unlike windows =/)... so Did I dl the right version of debian and I just need to reformat and boot on a clean hd? if thats the case I'm just gonna buy a new hd, cause I hate the one I have anyway. Slow as my ballz.

    please help =]

total newb here, I figure If throw my self in the hole (linux), dig myself out, i will learn more. I know some scripting, c++, and html. I want to learn and figure this cant hurt.

    i386 is the correct version

And Debian will allow you to reformat your hard drive (although you can still get a new one if you want )

concerning the problem though, did it say the iso had an error, or did it just not even try. Do you have the cdrom booting first in the bios?

The only thing I can think is that you just got a bad burn

    Mmm
Do u want to reformat all ur hd or keep a little place for windows?
Just in case: partman doesn't resize partition.
As for ur problem: might be effectivly either a bad burn or a bad iso. U tell us u burn it like an iso under nero (good ) but before burning it have u check the md5sum to be sure ur iso is right?

Make sure your Nero iso burning options are set to the defaults.

Also, you may wish to try a different burning software like:

    http://www.deepburner.com/

As long as your BIOS options are correct, there should be no reason for this disk to not boot.
