New to linux =/
ok I was dling debian and I'm wondering what version to install, I have a asus mobo and running a p4, so I thought I would go with i386... but im not sure. it didnt work when I went throught boot up...
Then I thought, hey maybe I have to refomat before installation because installing linux wont reformat the hd itself (unlike windows =/)... so Did I dl the right version of debian and I just need to reformat and boot on a clean hd? if thats the case I'm just gonna buy a new hd, cause I hate the one I have anyway. Slow as my ballz.
please help =]

i used nero, and burned it as an iso
question is tho, is do I have to reformat before installing linux? or does linux reformat during installation when I boot with the cd?

i386 is the correct version
And Debian will allow you to reformat your hard drive (although you can still get a new one if you want
)
concerning the problem though, did it say the iso had an error, or did it just not even try. Do you have the cdrom booting first in the bios?Brilliant Mediocrity - Making Failure Look Good

The only thing I can think is that you just got a bad burn

Just in case: partman doesn't resize partition.
As for ur problem: might be effectivly either a bad burn or a bad iso. U tell us u burn it like an iso under nero (good
) but before burning it have u check the md5sum to be sure ur iso is right?

Make sure your Nero iso burning options are set to the defaults.
Also, you may wish to try a different burning software like:

As long as your BIOS options are correct, there should be no reason for this disk to not boot.
