Set up HP Network printer
Is there an easy way in Debian to set up a hp laserjet
I did it in Suse , in Red Hat in (K)ubuntu even in OSX .
They all accept the printer as a postscpript printer with no problems.
The printer is at a printserver which is normally not visible in the windows network.
I read a lot of documents, but it seems that I have to load a driver (Hijps...???)
I have managed to load the necessary Cup files an so I get
Aplications>>Desktop Preferences>>>System Tools Printing
But then the trouble begins. What ever choice I make I cant't find a hp 2550C color laserjet and if I take laserjets it does not function.
Is it possible to copy some files of Ubuntu?
Thanks for your help.

Not sure if this will help you, try add these packages
Foomatic-db
Foomatic-db-engine
Foomatic-db-hpijs
Foomatic-filters
Foomatic-db-gimp-print
Then try running ....print manager....again.

I thought it was just me. I had the same trouble with my officejet scanner, printer, copier. Configuring it under Fedora, Mandrake, SuSE and Slackware was almost as easy as falling off a log backwards. With Debian, it was a nightmare. That's 'was" as in I gave up, not "was" as in I finally figured it out.

Try this, open a browser Konqueror/Mozilla whatever browser you have and typein
http:127.0.0.1:631 and press enter you will get the CUPS system. It is one another way to install a printer on linux based system if the other ways won't help
Go to "Do Adminstration Tasks" you can add/manage printers from there on.
Let me know if it worked

Do as stated above, and select lpd printer. You should check the config options of your print server (I for instance have my router as a print server, a US Robotics). It's address is 192.168.123.254, the printer queue is just plain 'lp'. The complete setup is lpd:192.168.123.254/lp. It was a real pain in the ass to figure out, but I finally made it
.
Hope that helps

Thank you EXPLODER and BORROMINI.
I did the following.
Browser >>> http:127.0.0.1:631 and got the cups system
Administration>>ADD Printer
Entered Name - Location - Description
Choosed Device: LPD/LPR host or printer
Device URI : lpd://192.168.1.155/lp (adress off the printserver)
Make POSTSCRIPT continue
Model GENERAL POSTSCRIPT..... continue
Then I choosed PRINTER and printed a testpage.
I got an error, but that was due to the fact that there was still another printer that didn't function. So I removed both and started again and
the printer started to print the picture.
As I saw the browser issue I remebered that I had done something like this befor. I will save this by my notes concerning Debian.
Thanks a lot both of you

No problem that's what we're for
. Basically CUPS is present on every linux distro so you should get your printer to work with every single one

HP Printer install
it did't work for me..... I got the following:
An error occurred while loading http://127.0.0.1:631:
Could not connect to host 127.0.0.1 (port 631).
Do you think I have to log in as root on the KDE?

Leave the colon at the end away:
127.0.0.1:631
You can login as root at the page itself, you can access the frontend as a regular user at all time, you just can't do everything
.
