GUI Error (seems to be common but can find help)

I can't start X server (your graphical interface). It's likely that it is not set up correctly. Would you like to view X server output to diagnose the problem? ---- thats when I am root


I cannot get my gui up for the life of me

apt-get install gnome-core
apt-get install xserver-xfree86
apt-get install x-window-system-core
apt-get install gdm

I did all of that

I dont have xorg because I used the net install off the debian website, so I cant even get a sympol gui up for my os... anyone having the same problem? and anyone can help me?

have you run

dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86

to make sure the driver and sync rates are correct?

no I haven't. I will try that out now and fool around with it, thanks. if this doesnt work, what else would you suggest? can I burn xorg off the net and load it on thru the prompt? I dunno heh brb to see
