Ubuntu grub error 18

Hi guys, its been a while I havent checked around

Here's my issue, I always used Lilo (3-4 years) and never had a problem.
Now I decided to try Ubuntu on my lappy...

Install everything, but I guess I installed grub on the wrong partition cause I get Error 18 on boot up. (I have windows on hda)

I put in the LiveCD, but cant seem to get grub setup working)

Here's the output from grub
Code:
setup (hd0,<TAB>
Possible partitions are :
Partition num 0, Filesystem type unknown, parition type 0x7
Partition num 2, ...
If I try "setup (hd0,0) I get "Error 12: Invalid devide requested"
Error 12 seems to be that GRUB doesn't recongnize the file system...

I've tryed to mount /dev/hda -t ntfs but says its already mounted or in use... (umount says its not mounted...)

I know someone has the information
Thanks in advance

Did you try "setup (hd0)" ?
That should put grub on the mbr instead of a partition.
What does fdisk show?
