    whenever i put a cd in to listen to nothing happens, nor does the disk image on my desktop show up to tell me i have something in my disk drive, but what's odd is when i go to my cd player app, it shows all the tracks as "track1, track2" and so on, but none of them play.

    well... are data and audio cd's different? like built??

    i also had the same thing (on the main when i used debian on the main, a long time ago)...

    also with knoppix on me dead box, but on the dead box, i had a second icon on the desktop for the audio cd...
    GAH!!!

    i had the same problem with xmms until i changed the cd audio extraction setting from analog to digital.
