    Too Much LIke windows/help

I found that Xandros Linux is too much like windows for my taste. If it wasn't for the constant crashing I would still be using redhat 9. So, I downloaded debian but can't get my computer to boot from a cd. It just goes straight tooo the boot loader.

Have you checked the boot sequence in the bios? I would check it out.

Is your media currupt? Other than the obvious, (boot sequence in the bios which has been sugested by borromini ) sometimes the media itself can do some strange things.

Just curious, what was crashing? On my systems, I've found Xandros to be quite stable. Also, if you don't like Xandros (which is based on Debian) you may not like Debian either. Just a thought.

Redhat crashed alot. I liked redhat. Yes, the boot sequence is cdrom>removable>Network>Hard disks. And no, the media isn't currupt.

    hibernation?

I've had a similar problem with SUSE 10 and booting from a cd. It turned out that because I had suspended to disk (hibernated) it had locked the boot loader on so perhaps try starting all your installed OSes and make sure you shut them down properly.

Xandros is made to be like Windows. You apparantly don't fit their target audience. Just find the distro that's right for you. It might take a while, but there's one out there, just waiting for you. I'm still looking for my distro. Haven't found it yet. But that's the nice thing about Linux: there's something for everybody.

always good to see a guy that hates windows
you could give gentoo or slackware a shot, they are as far away from windows as you can get (apart from LFS obviously)
Here's why Linux is easier than Windows:
Package Managers! Apt-Get and Portage (among others) allow users to install programs MUCH easier than Windows can.
Hardware Drivers. In SuSE, ALL the hardware is detected and installed automatically! How is this harder than Windows' constant disc changing and rebooting?
