    MYSQL Intsallation problem

    I have installed MySql4.0 on my pc. Looks like it is installed properly but when i try to execute it from command console i get an error :
    ERROR 2002: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock'

    Any help would be greatley appreciated.

    Well, to state the obvious, is your connection working properly?

    what do you mean by "connection working properly"?

    I have PostgreSQL installed on my pc by default when i have installed Debian Sarge? Does it cause any problem in connecting MySQL?
