    X can't find screen, no symbols found

    Well, today I found out I can run Counter-Strike on Linux (via Wine), and I've said before that if I could do that I'd never use Windows again. The problem is I can't get a desktop. I'm using sarge, my video card is a Geforce 6800 Ultra, and my monitor is a 17" CRT that supports 1600x1200 @ 65Hz. I've tried using the NV and VESA drivers, and both give me very similar errors:

    Five instances of something like
    Code:
    Skipping
    "/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/libGLcore.a:m_debug_clip.o": No symbols found.
    Then
    Code:
    (EE) VESA(0): vm86() syscall Generated signal 4.
    (EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.

    Fatal server error:
    no screens found.
    It also said something about 'fontconfig could not load default configuration' during installation. I'm pretty new to Linux, but I'm determined to get this working.

    I also got the same ... "font config" ...error during Sarge installation. I doubt that it caused your problem.
