    GAIM wont connect!!!

I am running Debian Sarge and I would like to use GAIM to use my Yahoo and MSN messenger services. But, when I click "sign on" it says "connecting" and after a while
it says "cannot connect to yahoo"!! I can't figure it out whats the problem??? Are there any port settings which I have to configure? My internet connection works poperly.

One more thing is have KDE and GNOME installed on my system so i have used KOPETE for messenger services. Some times it works and some times it wont! What does it mean is when i boot my pc and when i get the GNOME desktop interface & click the KOPETE shortcut icon on the task bar the kopete application opens and when i click connect, nothing happens!!!!

And also if i click "turn off my pc/restart" at this situation the pc wont restart/shutdown immediately! It will take a while to shutdown/restart and this problem occurs only when the Kopete application has a problem.

Quick help will be greately regarded

Have you tried using Port 23? Gaim has had issues with Yahoo in the past because Yahoo is very bad about changing their protocol settings to block out non Yahoo! messaging clients. Have you upgraded your Gaim to the latest version?
