    DNS Problem!!

I have DNS problem with my system. If i try to connect irc.freenode.net through XCHAT i get an error message stating that "cannot connect to 1.0.0.0". I get a same sought of mesage if i try to update Debain packages through apt-get update.

    But, when I type in
    "echo -e "nameserver 4.2.2.1\nnameserver 168.126.63.1\n" >/etc/resolv.conf"
Everything works fine. Infact, i got the above command from one of the user forums. What does this command do??

Is there any way that I can fix this problem permanently so that I dont need to type in each & everytime??

looks like you need to manually edit your /etc/resolv.conf file and add in the name server entries.
